Meet Jay & Amanda Mahaffey
Tuck & Howell isn't just a business to Jay Mahaffey — it's family history. The company has roots stretching back to 1969, and when Jay stepped in, it had seen better days. Rather than walk away from a name that meant something to the Upstate, he rolled up his sleeves and rebuilt it — restoring not just the business, but the reputation and the promise behind it. What you see today is the result of that work: a company brought back to life by someone who refused to let a piece of his family's legacy fade.Alongside Jay is his wife and co-owner, Amanda, who brings the same heart to the business that she brings to everything she does. When she's not helping run Tuck & Howell, Amanda is most likely in the kitchen — cooking is one of her great loves, and anyone who knows her knows she pours that same care and attention into the company.
Together, Jay and Amanda are raising two boys and keeping a home full of love (and a few four-legged family members — they're unapologetic animal lovers). That family-first spirit isn't something they leave at home; it comes to work with them every day and shapes how they treat their team, their customers, and their community. When the Mahaffeys say they treat your home like their own, they mean it — because for them, family and business have always been one and the same.

This morning I called Tuck and Howell to make an emergency HVAC repair appointment. Despite all time slots on the 'book online' feature being filled, they were able to make room for me. Our technician, Owen B., arrived on time and he clearly knew what he was doing. He diagnosed our issues, gave us a few quotes, and then saved our lives by applying the necessary fixes to our outdoor AC unit. He also gave high level answers to all of our questions, which is a great indicator of his experience and knowledge. Tuck and Howell should hold Owen close, he did a stellar job.
HVAC repairs are quite expensive, but I feel with Tuck and Howell, I will not need repairs often. Shout out to our tech, Owen B. You're good at what you do, thank you!

I had an HVAC problem with my upstairs unit. I called Tuck and Howell and the next day they were at my home with two great employees, Josh and Connor. They went upstairs and identified a serious problem but gave me options. The unit is over 10 years old. I decided that I would replace it. Josh was very patient and helpful in answering my questions. He is extremely knowledgeable as was Connor. I reviewed my options and picked the best one for my home.
Two days later, two extremely conscientious installers, Mark and Dante, came to my home and installed my new system. They did not waste time and did an extremely thorough and excellent job in installing my system. Both of them were determined to do the job to my satisfaction. You are fortunate to have such good men like Josh, Connor, Mark and Dante. They represent what excellent service should be.
I have been a Tuck and Howell customer for over 40 years. I have never changed, both in my home or former businesses. Getting to deal with a great team like these guys is confirmation that I will remain a customer. Gary Griffin

Jackson came out to fix our HVAC system. He is an awesome guy and got the job done. If me and the wife were staying in the area we would be returning customers any time we ran into issues with our HVAC system. Highly recommend their service! Today, Jesse Seger was that Tuck & Howell technician.
We needed him to locate and replace a UVC Bulb in our Air Purification unit attached to the HVAC System. He completed a thorough inspection of our entire system, located and assessed our problem. Jesse spent time explaining his findings, he proposed a plan of action answering all questions in a very professional easily understood manor to both my wife and me. It was an easy decision to agree to sign the work order for repairs to be completed!
