Custom Home Filtration Systems
There are two main types of water filtration systems available in Spartanburg: point-of-use and point-of-entry. Point-of-use systems provide filtered water through a specific tap, typically in the kitchen. They are cheaper but limit where you can access improved water quality.
On the other hand, point-of-entry filtration systems filter water at the point where it enters your home’s plumbing system. These systems can handle a much higher volume of water and are more expensive upfront.
The significant benefit of using a point-of-entry filtration system is that you will benefit from better water quality throughout your home, including your dishwasher, water heater, washing machine, showers, garden hoses, and more.
Various water purification configurations are available on the market, including mechanical filtration and absorptive stages. Most systems have at least two mechanical stages, with ratings of 5 microns that can remove visible particles, 1 micron that can remove particles that require a microscope to see, and 0.5 microns that can remove cysts such as cryptosporidium and giardia.
Most systems also include an absorbent stage that uses activated carbon to absorb unpleasant odors and tastes and waterborne contaminants such as pathogens, arsenic, asbestos, mercury, and radon.
Other types of filtration stages include sequestration filters, which can remove minerals such as limescale and corrosion. Ion exchange removes magnesium and calcium ions and replaces them with sodium and hydrogen ions. Reverse osmosis is highly effective at removing dissolved inorganic solids.
Homeowners may also want to consider water softener systems, which can be installed as a standalone solution or integrated into their water purification system.
A water softener reduces the amount of minerals such as calcium and magnesium in their water, resulting in various benefits such as improved water heater efficiency, better skin health, cleaner laundry, and better-tasting food and drink.
Here are some signs you should consider water filtration:
- Bad taste
- Sediment
- Cloudiness
- Discoloration
- Unpleasant smell
If you have a home filtration system, ensuring that the water it produces is safe to drink is essential. Having our plumbers perform water testing by checking the system periodically to ensure it works appropriately and removes harmful things like bacteria, chemicals, and metals.
We can do a few tests to check the water, like measuring the acidity, how clear it is, and how much chlorine is in it. By doing these tests regularly, we can guarantee that your filtration system is working well and that the water it produces is clean and safe to drink.
